Went to Shopwise Sucat this evening and there she was again sitting at the corner of the gutter and in my mind i asked the same question months ago when i first saw her. Why is she there? A couple of months ago i saw her at the same spot. I was gonna pass by her coz my car is parked infront of where she’s sitting. I dont know if she’s asking for alms or waiting for someone. I wanted to help but when i came nearer, she didnt ask for anything nor did i hear her mutter a word. she just smiled at me and i smiled back. So that made me wonder more, what is she doing there? Weeks passed and i saw her again. I was in the car going out of the parking, i couldnt make a stop coz there were cars behind me. So i went around then back to her handed over a nag of loaf, i told her to eat it so she wont gwt hungry. She just smiled at me quite hesitant to accept the loaf. But i insisted and she smiled back like saying thank you. Early this evening, i saw her again. After putting my groceries in the car, i went to her and squat infront of her, asked her, “nay, may inaantay po ba ikaw?” She said “nagaantay ng limos, naka may makatulong saakin na mapagamot yung mga mata ko.” Then i asked what her name is. She said, Violeta, Yoly and palayaw ko. And the short story began. I spent a like 10 mins or less squatting in front of her because i want to know her story. She said that she has Cataract ib her left eye, and she needs money for the surgery. The doctor told her that she needs to have that surgery, she already had the cataract on the right eye removed, and the doctor told her that the left might get worse and eventually lead to blindness if wont have the surgery. I asked her If shes diabetic coz i noticed the swollen legs and feet plus the wounds. She said she isnt diabetic. At least thats what the doctor said. She needs Php60,000 for her to have that surgery. She said “ayaw ko pa mabulag kasi may mga apo ako gusto ko p sila makita.” And it melted my heart even more. To be continued at the comments section….
